It is October and fall is in the air. The leaves are changing colour and there is a little chill at night. Days are still sunny and fresh.
October is a great month to be taking walks with your camera and snapping pictures. It is not to cold or to hot. Clocks have not been turned back yet so we can all be out in the sunlight till about 7pm EST.
The are some other great times to take pictures in October. In Canada we celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving and in the USA Columbus Day. A great time to take photos in your small circle with social distancing rules in affect.
Thanksgiving has been officially celebrated as an annual holiday in Canada since November 6, 1879. While the date varied by year and was not fixed, it was commonly the third Monday in October.
On January 31, 1957, the Governor General of Canada Vincent Massey issued a proclamation stating: "A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed – to be observed on the second Monday in October".

Columbus Day is a U.S. holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492, and Columbus Day 2020 is on Monday, October 12. It was unofficially celebrated in a number of cities and states as early as the 18th century, but did not become a federal holiday until 1937.

Of course the big holiday in October is Halloween on October 31st of each year. The word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. The word "Hallowe'en" means "Saints' evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day).
In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain(pronounced sow-in). . The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.
