The Growth Compact Cameras:

The fastest growth in photography is now compact cameras. Let's hope that 2025 is the year that camera manufactures bring more advanced models onto the market place. I personally hope these will be retro compact cameras.

I found this great article looking at 5 compact cameras from a bygone era by Gareth Bevan

The Growth Film Photography:

Film Photography has made a comeback in the Digital age. Many young people are drawn to analog photography as it has a certain retro charm while waiting for the film to be developed. I always enjoyed buying different types of films and waiting to see the results they would bring. With analog photography is not instant results, You either develop the film yourself in a darkroom, or bring it to a lab. Which ever way to chose to develop the film stock it takes time and skill.

When I was a store manager at a famous Canadian Camera Store, it was the norm to wait from

1 hour to 5 days to get they images back from the photo lab. Customers would often pay the extra cost to see their images in 1 hour. Two sets of prints were a discount we offered to customers.

I found this great article focusing on Film Cameras by Sebastian Oakley

Half Frame Film Cameras:

These are stock photos and not owned by yahumpphotograph

A half-frame camera splits the film in half in order to fit two images side-by-side in the space normally occupied by one. So, a roll of 12 images becomes 24 images, a roll of 24 becomes 48 images, and a roll of 36 images becomes 72 images. Certainly, it is a way to take more pictures on a roll of 35mm film. Like everything in the world Half Frame Cameras have advantages and disadvantages.

Why is the Canon AE-1 is still one of the most popular film cameras, almost half a century after in launched?

The Camera Phone:

It is hard to imagine that the camera phone is twenty-four years old. Even to an older photographer like me, it seems camera phones have been around forever. Cellular phones changed the way we communicate and do work.

Few people did not have the Nokia 3310 in 2000. I loved that little blue phone and it was my first cell phone. The price per min to talk was high and who new that the world would soon change forever.

As the first camera phones were announced, it was the camera-free Nokia 3310 was the handset that most people were using (Image credit: Getty Images)

In November 2000, Sharp launched the J-SH04 – the world's first camera phone capable of sending picture messages. Initially it was only available in Japan, Sharp JS-H04 - the first camera phone (Image credit: Sharp)
